Capital Costs for Biodiesel Plants in India – For Standalone and Integrated Plants

By • Dec 26th, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized

What are the capital costs for setting up a biodiesel plant in India?

The answer depends on whether you are setting up an integrated biodiesel plant in which you start with crushing of the oilseed or whether the starting point for your biodiesel plant is the vegetable oil.

For the case where the starting point is the vegetable oil, biodiesel plants cost about Rs 30-35 lakhs per T per day capacity. This plant comprises primarily refining and transesterification equipments.

For integrated biodiesel plants that also comprise equipments such as expellers and filter presses, the capital cost of setting up a biodiesel plant will be in the range of Rs 50 lakhs per T per day of capacity.

  1. is there no CAPEX benefit in in setting up larger plants? Normally I'de expect the cost to be more of a ax +b function where x is the capacity of the plant? The size of the plant would also obviously depend on the availability of raw materials in the zone…since raw material seems to be a big problem for the bio fuels industry in India.
