US based Clenergen Corp planning to invest about $100 million in setting up biomass-based power plants in southern India. Officials said that the company had obtained a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Power Trading Corp (PTC) which includes the electricity generated from the power plant.

The company plans to generate about 71 MW of power, initially, using biomass. Based on four years of research, the company reports that it has identified three special plants, two trees and bamboo, which can reduce the feedstock costs by 50%.
