Over 50 neighbors in Ward 5 are going solar together in an effort to take advantage of a group discount organized by DC Solar United Neighborhoods (DC SUN). By going solar as a group, participants in the bulk purchase program save up to approximately 30% off the typical cost of installing solar systems on their homes. And, they build community in the process.
By going through the solarization process together, the homeowners of Ward 5 were able to get a much lower price on going solar. They worked with local nonprofit DC SUN, who provided unbiased technical support and guided the group through the entire process. DC SUN issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on behalf of the group to solicit competitive bids from local area installers.
Ten volunteers from the group of participating homeowners form a committee that chooses an installer for the whole group. The Ward 5 Committee reviewed the bids provided by local installers and selected a single company,Virginia-based GreenBrilliance, to complete all of the installations for Ward 5. Each participant will own their individual system and will sign their own customized contract with the company.
