American Superconductor (AMSC), a leading energy technologies company has licensed its proprietary 2 MW wind turbine design to Inox Wind Limited, part of India’s Inox Group of Companies. This is the 2nd licensing deal for AMSC in India who forged a 1.65MW deal with Ghodawat Industries last year

Inox will manufacture and sell the turbines globally and AMSC will help Inox with supply of components, establish a manufacturing line, build and test the wind turbines. In exchange, AMSC will receive up front license fees and royalty payments.

AMSC views India as a place with tremendous growth opportunity for all its products. The company also says that the Indian wind power market not only provides them with a growing stream of revenue, but also provides a concrete rationale to establish their in-country base of operations and contacts. From this base, they expect to address not only the wind market, but also the huge power grid market opportunity in India for their reactive compensation and superconductor product.
