Green Jobs in India to Grow at 60% | India Renewable Energy Consulting – Solar, Biomass, Wind, Cleantech

Ladies and gentlemen, the green jobs in India is expected to grow at a hectic pace, by about 60%, according to some estimates.

This should not exactly be a surprise; in fact, the only surprise should be “why just 60%?”, given that the green sector is young and employment in this sector currently has a small base.

Well, I guess there could be a problem when one tries to define what is a green job. Among these, green energy jobs are easy to define, as they belong to clearly identifiable sectors such as solar, wind etc., but green jobs are more than green energy jobs. These could pretty much belong to any industry or sector (and could be blue collar, white collar or any other colored collar you might like) – as long as the job contributes significantly to preserve or enhance environmental quality, I reckon you could that a green job. You can now pretty much understand why I mentioned 60% as low – in most of these sectors, there was pretty much no one doing these kinds of jobs until a few years back, and now, whiz bang!, there are mandates that things have to happen tomorrow.

One area outside of green energy that could see dramatic requirements of green professionals is the green building sector, with an enormous interest being shown by the real estate community towards becoming green.

And if this article is to be believed, companies are offering about a lakh per month to middle management and 3-4 lakhs per month at senior positions. A lakh per month for a middle manager would put him on par with that of the software industry, or would it? If it did, that is a welcome trend – who wouldn’t want more bright guys to do anything other than just commodity coding!
