A USD 565 million Group, Amara Raja is involved in engineering, research and design of batteries was found in 1985 and is headquartered at Hyderabad.

Company Profile

Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARBL) is the largest manufacturer of Standby Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries in the Indian Ocean Rim region. They offer a range of zero-maintenance batteries. Their fully integrated manufacturing facility is situated in Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, India. Amaron batteries incorporate the latest technological advances in the field of captive power and are on par with batteries manufactured and marketed anywhere in the world.

Amara Raja supplies automotive batteries to almost all auto manufacturers in the country including Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Hyundai Motors India Limited, Ford India Limited, Tata Motors Limited, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, Honda Siel Cars India Limited, General Motors Limited and many others.

Product Profile

  • The company is developing battery modules for all types of EVs 
  • They recently started a fleet of 10 of their own electric auto rickshaws in tirupati along with a charging and battery swapping facility for the same. 

Future Plans

  • The company says that the fleet operation is a technical demonstration of their future plans and ideas.
  • The company added a lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility of 500MWH capacity at its Tirupati manufacturing unit in August 2019, working closely with IIT Chennai.

Other Strategic Perspectives

  • Amara Raja expects the market for supplying batteries to e-rickshaws, small privately-owned three-wheeler taxis, to grow at a compounded rate of about 20% over the next five years from 2019.
