In India, Bosch is a leading supplier of technology and services in the areas of Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. Additionally, Bosch has in India the largest development center outside Germany, for end-to-end engineering and technology solutions. The Bosch Group operates in India through twelve companies

Company Profile

The Bosch Group is a leading global supplier of technology and services. It employs roughly 403,000 associates worldwide (as of December 31, 2019). According to preliminary figures, the company generated sales of 77.9 billion euros in 2019. Its operations are divided into four business sectors: Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology.

Product Profile

Bosch India has developed an integrated electrification system including motor, control unit, battery, charger, display, and app that can power two, three and four-wheeler electric vehicles. The company tested their powertrain in a Maruti Suzuki Baleno as a hybrid.

  • Electrified and Powertrain Solutions: The company manufactures the powertrains for the newly launched TVS i-Qube and Bajaj Chetak electric scooters
  • Integrated System for light electric vehicles
  • Electronic Engine Management Systems (Two-wheeler electrification)
  • Electronic battery sensor
  • Hybridization solutions with 48V systems: The company tested their hybrid system by retrofitting a Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The vehicle attained greater performance than its pure ICE version.
  • Connected and Services Solutions: Tata uses Bosch  telematics systems for its Nexon EV.

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Future Plans

  • Plans to use its manufacturing and engineering base in India to provide comprehensive electric-vehicle solutions
  • The company aims to further invest Rs. 1700 crores for development of breakthrough technology for mobility and AI solutions in its R&D center near Bangalore starting 2019.
  • Bosch is working with Indian OEMs to provide hybrid vehicle solutions, apart from the traditional internal combustion engines. exploring both petrol and diesel hybrid variants in India

Other Strategic Perspectives

  • The company sees the potential to develop low-cost two and three-wheeler solutions from the local R&D (research and development) base for India and other emerging markets.
  • Bosch Asia Pacific chief Peter Tyroller believes that small-vehicle segments will drive the transition to mass electrification, as urban dwellers seek a simple and affordable alternative to conventional standards
  • Bosch will continue to focus on internal combustion (IC) engines despite electric vehicle technology gaining traction globally. The company estimates that globally by 2030, 75% of all vehicles will have IC engines and only 25% will have electric or fuel cell technology. Bosch is improving IC engines and making them clean and environment-friendly,.

Global Work

  • Bosch research campus in Renningen is working on improving battery perforamance so as to store 50 kWh of energy in a single battery of 190 kgs.
  • The company is also working on Solid state batteries.
  • The company believes their Systems Expertise is the USP and continues to work on connected mobility.
