Hyundai to source more components locally for EV play - India Renewable Energy Consulting – Solar, Biomass, Wind, Cleantech

Hyundai is a big name in the Indian car sector. The company sells the most number of cars in India after Maruti Suzuki. In fact, the company could be selling close to 7 lakh (0.7 million cars) in India for 2020, a large number indeed.

The company’s plans for electric vehicles are also revving up. Even though the company has already launched the premium Kona, it will take 2-3 years for Hyundai to launch a more affordable and mass market EV model.

In the meantime, the company is firming up strategies to source more components locally for its electric vehicle foray, according to this news report.

That should not be really difficult for the company which already has a well established supply chain for producing its conventional vehicles. And given the fact that many of the auto component and auto ancillary makers are also keen to hitch on to the electric vehicle bandwagon, it will be a win-win for both the OEM and its suppliers if they can collaborate on the transition to an electric mobility future where Hyundai is able to build high quality electric cars for India with components sourced to the maximum extent possible from Indian companies.
