Now, there’s an interesting question: will cargo electric bikes eat SUVs?
Many of you may not have expected a comparison to be drawn between these two vehicles, leave alone suggesting that David could defeat Goliath. But there it is.
While this question was posed at TreeHugger and aimed at the international audience (mainly EU and North America), this is possibly more relevant to India whose local logistics sector has been recently shifting from smaller vehicles to larger vehicles such as pickup trucks.
So, once again the question: Will small cargo electric bikes eat large SUVs?
At EV Next, our analysis shows that if at all they eat SUVs, it will be only in select cases.
SUVs offer many advantages over cargo bikes – be they in terms of amount of cargo you can carry or the distance you can travel. Besides, the weather and climate do not affect SUVs.
All the above are important when it comes to cargo transport.
On the other hand, for micro-mobility segments used by households that purchase goods regularly (and hence only a small amount each time) from local shops, electric cargo bikes could fill a gap.
