One of the best wind resources in the world will soon be home to a massive new wind project. The 396 MW project is in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca, where wind speeds are known to average 8.5 meters per second.
Once completed, the project is expected to be the biggest single stage wind farm in Latin America. Vestas Mexico subsidiary will complete the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the project, and will supply 132 of the company 3-MW wind turbines.
According to figures maintained by the Global Wind Energy Council, the size of the project is larger than the 316 MW installed in all of 2010.
That’s a rather positive development for Mexico, isn’t it?
