Wind Power in New York - Can It Take Off? - India Renewable Energy Consulting – Solar, Biomass, Wind, Cleantech

The Big Apple is finally exploring wind power. New York is pursuing wind power by planning a few projects that take advantage of the city’s coastal features. In the meantime, many city residents can buy wind power through their utility companies.

Some buildings have experimented with drawing electricity from their own wind turbines with mixed results. Les Bluestone, a developer trying out turbines atop the Elltona, a 63-unit apartment building in the Melrose section of the Bronx, said that the10 turbines work well when there is wind. Therein lies the rub: inconsistent wind means inconsistent power.

Guess wind will supply a miniscule percentage of power that a New Yorker consumes, but it is a start all the same
