Putting Oil Back into Ground for Decarbonization – Climpact from Clidemy
Climpact from CliDemy – the Climate Academy provides curated updates on actions & solutions that have the potential to provide high climate & decarbonization benefits.
A Silicon Valley startup, Charm Industrial, is converting biomass to oil and…
…pouring it back into the earth.
Now, that might sound weird and not good business, but the startup feels it could be good for climate.
You see, the reasoning goes thus: Biomass (plants, trees, grass, algae…) capture massive amounts of CO2 every year. What if one is able to accelerate this process by firstly growing more of the biomass and then sequester the captured carbon below the earth, where it will hopefully stay undisturbed for centuries?
There is logic, you will agree, though there will be questions too.
