May we live in the best of times
Further extending my scope of activities during lock down to all things domestic, I was asked (euphemism for ordered) to do today’s kolam for my house.
Today is the Tamil New Year day. A new year should represent hope, optimism and new possibilities, so I decided to do the kolam around the theme of infinity. Uncharitable family members claimed they couldn’t see infinity in my art – I suggest you look at it from all angles and you will eventually spot it.
A Googling showed me that Apr 14 (or dates in very close vicinity) is a super special day – it is the new year day not just for Tamilians and Malayalis and Bengalis and Sikhs and Oriyas and Tuluvas, but also for Burmese, Khmers, Laos, Nepalese, Sinhalese and Thais. Whew, who knew!
Talking of infinite possibilities in such challenging times may appear misaligned, but today is such a special day that one is tempted to think that something special may start happening.
We seem to be living in the worst of times, but here’s wishing that we all soon start living in the best of times.
Puthaandu vaazhthukkal. Happy new year.
