Green power to green chemicals to green pharma
Green chemicals has been a much talked about but much less acted upon sector in the last decade.
The chemicals sector – and even more so, the pharma sector – has been relatively untouched by carbon mandates and regulations world over, but that could be changing fast.
In perhaps a sign of things to come in this context, here’s a rather rare development where a pharma company (and right here in India) has tied up with a renewable power developer to “𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐃𝐂𝐃𝐀, 𝐏𝐀𝐏, 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐥, 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧, 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬.”
Guess that broadly comes under the Power2X concept – in which you use surplus power or green power to produce hydrogen and use that nice little, useful, molecule in myriad ways to produce an assortment of low-carbon products.
Should this plan of Granules & Greenko turn a reality, that would be rather pioneering, or at least so I think!
A pretty good low carbon start to 2023.
