Baglietto’s Bzero: Prototype for Green Hydrogen Production | India Renewable Energy Consulting – Solar, Biomass, Wind, Cleantech

Baglietto presents a shore-based prototype of a green hydrogen production module that will be at the core of its onboard fuel cell technology.

Here is an article in Superyacht Times. According to it, the facts about the power station are

  • The hydrogen production module runs filtered and deionized sea water through AEM-type electrolysers
  • It is powered by energy from solar panels and the shore power grid.
  • The hydrogen produced is safely stored in solid state in metal hydride cylinders  at low pressure (35 bar) and room temperature  – the most compact way to store hydrogen

So how does this new module, the Bzero system compare to traditional fuel systems in terms of efficiency?

The Bzero system is a green hydrogen production system that uses filtered and deionised seawater to produce hydrogen with a purity grade of 5.0 at a maximum pressure of 35 bar. This system is designed to be more efficient and sustainable compared to traditional fuel systems in several ways:

  1. Zero Emissions: The Bzero system utilizes hydrogen as fuel to generate electrical current with zero emissions of pollutants and noise, rendering it a more eco-friendly choice than conventional fossil fuel systems.
  2. Increased Efficiency: The blend of hydrogen and batteries in the Bzero system yields four times more energy than standard batteries, offering substantial savings for yacht owners.
  3. Renewable Energy Source:The electrolyzers in the Bzero system are mainly powered by energy from renewable sources (photovoltaic panels) and/or the electricity grid, ensuring that the hydrogen produced is as green as possible.
  4. Reduced Refueling Time: The Bzero system is designed to allow independent refilling of the hydrogen tanks, either from an external source or on-site. This helps overcome the lack of hydrogen refueling infrastructure and can significantly reduce refueling times compared to recharging large battery banks.
  5. Increased Electric Cruising Range: As the combination of hydrogen fuel cells and batteries in the Bzero system is expected to provide four times more available energy than current battery-only systems, it will result in a much greater electric cruising range for yachts in zero-emission mode.
  6. Increased Onboard Comfort: The quiet operation of fuel cells and emission-free nature are anticipated to enhance onboard comfort for yacht owners and guests.

Overall, it is clear that the Bzero system offers a more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective solution for yachts compared to traditional fuel systems.
