  • Fendt unveiled its first-generation hydrogen-powered tractor at the German Hydrogen Summit.
  • The tractor is part of the H2Agrar agricultural model project in Lower Saxony.
  • The project aims to research hydrogen infrastructure for agricultural use.
  • Fendt will deliver two prototypes to farms in Lower Saxony for real-world testing.
  • The project aims to establish a hydrogen infrastructure for the Emsland model region.
  • The project has already won the DLG Agrifuture Concept Award 2022.

Key Features of Fendt’s Hydrogen Tractor Prototype

  1. Hydrogen Fuel Cell System: The tractor is equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell that generates electricity to power the vehicle, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional diesel engines.
  2. Battery Integration: It includes a 25 kWh battery that works in conjunction with the fuel cell, providing additional power and enabling efficient energy management during operation.
  3. Power Output: The tractor is designed to deliver a power output of 100 kW (approximately 134 hp), allowing it to perform various agricultural tasks effectively.
  4. Hydrogen Storage: The design incorporates a unique roof structure that houses the hydrogen tanks, optimizing space while ensuring safety and functionality.
  5. Operational Duration: The hydrogen tanks are capable of providing sufficient power for about five hours of moderately strenuous work, making it practical for typical farming operations.
  6. Platform Base: The tractor is based on the 700-series frame, which is known for its robustness and versatility in agricultural applications.
  7. Research and Development: The project is part of the H2Agrar initiative, which aims to establish a hydrogen infrastructure for agricultural use and to investigate the technical requirements for hydrogen supply in farming.
