Shriram EPC, the Chennai-based company involved in turnkey projects in the renewable energy, water & sewer treatment and metallurgy spaces, is looking at manufacturing nearly 250 wind turbine generators (WTGs) this fiscal through its joint venture with Italian firm Leitner Technologies. Shriram Leitwind is a 51:49 JV.

Nearly Rs 120 crore has been invested and another Rs 80 crore would be pumped in during this fiscal. Leitner Shriram manufactures WTGs of 250 kilowatt (kw) and 1.5 megawatt (mw) capacities.

The company already secured orders for 70-80 250 kw machines from other companies and for ten 1.5 mw machines for its own wind farm. The company plans to sell another 100 of the 250 kw turbine and 60 of the 1.5 mw turbine before the end of the fiscal. According to the company, the manufacturing and erection of a 250 kw WTG costs nearly Rs 1.2 crore and that of the 1.5 mw WTG costs Rs 9.5 crore.
