A detailed article on how China and India are going out of their way to ensure that they ramp up power production from solar PV. China has a 2 GW goal and India a mammoth 20 GW goal by 2020. Naturally, neither of these countries is going to just leave it to the market forces to achieve these ambitious goals.

India in particular plans to provide massive subsidies to those companies which are willing to purchase solar power based electricity. It is reported that the subsidy could run to $100 billion!

As the article says, perhaps it is time that the US learnt a few things from India and China. In the case of India, the US can also have a major role to plan in ensuring that India is able to meet its goal.
