Lindemann, graduate from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., with a marketing and design engineering degree and his team designed a small-scale wind turbine at a affordable price for people in India who live in villages where electricity is not available.
The ideal price per unit would be about $150. Each miniature turbine, which is about 6 feet in diameter, would power one home which use to power anywhere from one light bulb to a fan, refrigerator, TV, cell phone charger maybe, or a radio.
Lindemann said he and his team began working with their client, Distributed World Power, a Pasadena, Calif.-based technology and energy products design company, in January and applied for the grant in March.
It appears that India will be a market place for small scale energy projects which has about 80000 unelectrified villages.
