An FE study reveals that aggregate expenditure on energy of the 324 major companies (including seven power and airline companies) increased by 25.4% to Rs 79,375 crore during 2008-09 from the level of Rs 63,274 crore during 2007-08. (Source article)

However, it appears that this is not out of line with overall total expenditure increase for these companies – about 24%; so OK, nothing extra-ordinary about it really.

So why did I write this post at all? I think I was just interested in finding which companies were spending most on energy. For that question, I got the answer towards the end of the article:”The top five in terms of energy cost are NTPC, Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Power, Jet Airways and Torrent Power of which the highest increase in energy cost was observed in the case of Reliance Infrastructure”
