This decision is expected to help the power ministry in its objective to add 78,000 MW of power generation capacity by March 2012.

The power ministry called a special meeting with these manufacturers to ensure that they speed up their setting of manufacturing bases in India and their expansion plans are in time.

The govt is expected to give its nod soon to the bulk tendering of supercritical equipment by NTPC and DVC. This has evinced interest from joint ventures such as L&T-Mitsubishi, JSW-Toshiba, Bharat Forge-Alstom and Ansaldo-GB Engineering.
