The traditional artists of India will now manufacture eco-friendly products as they have been imparted education, to use reusable and waste materials to produce handicrafts, by the NGOs such as Handloom And Handicrafts Today (HAST) Karigar Society, which has conducted an exhibition of 35 product lines from 16 various States, in Chennai.

These handicraft artisans have been trying to attract urban consumers towards their products and create a niche for handicrafts in urban markets.

Secretary of HAST Karigar Society, Ms. Sharmistha Lahiri said that the artisans use vegetable colours for block printing on products such as jewels and slippers made of jute, as well as produce other fancy items utilizing renewable and eco-friendly raw materials.
