Chennai is not exactly known for its green-ness (see here, here, here and here to see how Chennai has not made the cut)
EAI, India’s leading renewable energy research and business support firm, is located in Chennai.
So what better way to explore how cities could be made greener and more sustainable than starting off with experimentation in Chennai, and hopefully in the process, make the city a far worthy competitor with others in the country in this context!
Thus was formed the EAI Green Chennai Initiative.
EAI Green Chennai
It is an initiative from EAI to evolve a platform that will involve hundreds, if not thousands, of people from Chennai to make our city a role model city that hundreds more from around the world would like to follow!
Some of the initiatives planned under EAI Green Chennai are:
- Providing regular updates on the web on various avenues and ideas to make the city green
- Regular workshops and presentations
- Evolving a simple, workable action framework in which individuals, and not governments or corporate, can play a dominant role
- Highlighting eco-friendly activities in the city that have been successful
- Evolving a role for college students in the city
EAI Green Chennai is not an isolated effort by EAI, but this will be a combined team effort between hundreds of volunteers we will be having in this effort.
I know that these efforts are not easy, but with the right set of passionate people, and with a simple but optimal framework (which we will evolve along with the volunteers), I am sure we can achieve wonders.
