Discom NDPL has prepared an ambitious plan to tap renewable sources of energy. Apart from its several solar projects that already exist, the discom is working on various other plans with an aim to generate up to 1500 kW power from solar energy before the Commonwealth Games.

Well, while solar PV might not yet be cost competitive for the common you and me to use it, I feel that demonstrative and high-profile projects such as these could do solar PV a lot of good in India.

As part of phase I, NDPL plans to set up a 1-MW solar plant at Keshavpuram and a 25-kW plant at the parking lot at Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (DERC) office in south Delhi. In addition, the discom will also set up a 25-kW solar plant at the residence of chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

Officials said another five projects will be launched as part of phase II. From these five projects, they hope to generate around 500 kW power.

NDPL officials said phase I projects would be completed by May while the phase II would be ready by September.
