Read that Azure Power, a provider of solar energy to commercial, government and utility customers, is looking to set up two solar energy plants in Karnataka. The company plans to set up a 2 Mw solar power plant in Kolar and a 10 Mw plant in Bagalkot in north Karnataka for a combined investment of close to Rs 200 crore.
The company’s CEO mentioned that he had entered into an agreement with the state government for power purchase.
To be honest, I’m not getting a clear picture about who runs the solar PV show. On the one hand, we have MNRE claiming that they will give Rs 17.91 per MW under the National Solar Mission and the various state governments proclaiming that they too will give feed-in-tariffs, though these numbers are usually different (significantly lower) from the 17.91 estimated provided above. Who exactly is going to fund the state government’s subsidies? If it is IREDA, then why are these schemes different? If the state governments are fund these from their own kitties, have they really done their math on this?
