Earlier today, I read news analysis of electric scooters/motorbikes in India. The author had an interesting perspective, and I will share it here

Those following the electric cars market would not missed the news item about Reva being bought by Mahindra earlier this month. That set a lot of speculation about Reva in general and electric cars in particular.

The problems faced by EVs in India (as well as the world) are fairly well known and documented. Large requirement of space for batteries, relatively low distance travelled per charge, and of course the high cost.

Electric scooters and motorbikes indeed face none of these problems in a significant way, owing to the shorter distances they are used for. And I do agree with the author of the article that they could indeed fill a sweet spot as the Indian consumers see a steady rise in the price of petrol.

What’s your take on this?
