The Clidemy Professional Interview series from CliDemy – the Climate Academy provides insights on emerging career opportunities across the climate tech and climate action sectors through interviews with professionals working in them.
My pleasure to continue with the 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 series with Parkavi Kumar who works as a Senior Communication Officer at ICRISAT. ICRISAT is dedicated to developing a range of future-ready crops and solutions across Asia and Africa to support dryland farmers. This involves activities such as developing drought-tolerant crop varieties for India and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.
Parkavi was one of the very first employees when I kicked off my consulting venture for the renewable energy sector way back in 2008. She was the first professional in my company with a biotech background and led the design, research and publication of globally acclaimed reports on algae fuels. She continued her passion in biotech by being involved in a number of research efforts post her work in my company, before settling down in the interesting role of a communications specialist in an agri-research organization. I’m really glad to see her career growth, especially the way she has ensured that it is aligned to her passion.
ICRISAT, the organization she works for, does internationally valued research on crops and farming, efforts that could have significant positive impacts on hundreds of millions of farmers in the semi arid & tropical agro-climatic conditions. ICRISAT, I also understand, was responsible for getting 2023 to be the International Year of Millets by the UN. Who knows, perhaps Parkavi had an invisible hand in this!
