What’s a cow doing in an electric vehicle workshop?
That was what might have struck some of the folks who attended an EV Innovation Workshop organized some weeks back by Chennai Climate Consortium (C3) that I coordinate.
In a room with 100 people, mostly engineers and technology innovators who had just finished listening to multiple presentations from folks in tech, as varied as predictive battery analytics to aviation microturbines for heavy vehicles, Vachana Shetty of Akshayakalpa Organic spoke for about five minutes about cows and milk and soil and farmers.
Many in the audience were perhaps left bemused, but that’s precisely the irony.
Irony? What irony?
Electric mobility is an important avenue for decarbonization. Organic, sustainable farming with circular inputs is also an important tool in the decarbonization arsenal.
But these two decarbonization segments look at each other as if they are from different planets.

Thank you Vachana for being and talking at the event. Akshayakalpa is also the Platinum Sponsor of CLIMAFIX Summit 2023, India’s largest climate startup summit, organized by Energy Alternatives India & THE ENERGY CONSORTIUM – IIT MADRAS.
