Poll: 2500 AD – How Will Earth Look & Feel?

Ever wondered what our planet might be like a few centuries down the line? Well, so did we! So, we took to LinkedIn to ask you, our savvy community of futurists and realists, to cast your votes on the fate of Earth by 2500 AD. And, oh boy, did you have some thoughts!

Here’s How the Votes Stacked Up

Will be quite OK, chill! 5%
Humans might be extinct 26%
Very harsh living conditions 42%
Full of “better” humans 26%

It turns out, a good chunk of you—42%, to be precise—predict a future with very harsh living conditions. Meanwhile, my optimistic side leans towards the ‘Full of “better” humans’ option, bagging 26% of the votes. A future brimming with evolved, perhaps more enlightened homo sapiens? Count me in on that vision!

2500 AD: A Crystal Ball Gaze

Let’s unpack this, shall we? With the majority vote pointing towards ‘Very harsh living conditions,’ it’s clear there’s a sense of urgency and, perhaps, a pinch of pessimism about our environmental stewardship. Yet, the question looms—how will Earth really look and feel in a few centuries? Science offers some clues on potential for groundbreaking advancements in technology and genetics and the looming threat of climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss but we all know, Mother Nature has a way of keeping us on our toes.

Will We Make the Cut?

Between predictions of potential human extinction and a planet boasting ‘better’ humans, there’s a lot to chew on. Are we smart enough to dodge the environmental bullet? I’d like to think so. Will humans become extinct due to climate change? I doubt it. But it’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving. Can we adapt, innovate, and evolve our way into a ‘better’ version of humanity that lives in harmony with our planet? I’m banking on it.

Looking at the dire predictions, It’s easy to get a bit gloomy. Yet, history has shown us that humans are nothing if not resilient. From the brink of disasters, we’ve bounced back, often stronger and wiser. So, while ‘very harsh living conditions’ might be in the lead, let’s not discount our capacity for transformation. The future could be full of surprises, with breakthroughs in science, technology, and social consciousness paving the way for a world that’s not just survivable, but downright thriving.
