Adani, Ashok Leyland, and Ballard Power Systems set to launch hydrogen fuel cell electric truck for mining logistics, transportation in India.

Ashok Leyland’s Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Truck

In a significant advancement, Ashok Leyland, in collaboration with Reliance Industries, unveiled India’s first hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2-ICE) powered heavy-duty truck. This truck, which has a loading capacity of 19-35 tons and a range of 400 kilometers per hydrogen tank, maintains a design similar to conventional diesel trucks.

Daimler India’s Luxury Hydrogen-Powered Coach

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), in collaboration with Reliance Industries, showcased India’s first intercity luxury concept coach powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology. The bus was unveiled at the 4th Energy Transitions Working Group meeting under India’s G20 Presidency in Goa from July 19-22, 2023. The bus has a Gross system power of 127 kW and a Net power of 105 kW, equivalent to 300 HP, aligning with the performance of current diesel buses used for intercity applications. It can cover about 400 km on a single hydrogen fill, making it suitable for long-distance travel between cities.
