In the vast expanse of the organic dairy sector, where sustainability meets excellence, one name stands out: Akshayakalpa Organic. With over 13 years of dedicated expertise, this company has not just established itself as a leader but has become a beacon of inspiration for the entire industry.

Narasimhan Santhanam, Director, EAI interviewed Vachana Shetty, Head, Marketing at Akshayakalpa. Here are the highlights and takeaways.

The Roots of Sustainability

At the heart of Akshayakalpa Organic’s success lies its commitment to self-sustainability and environmental stewardship. Operating two model farms – one in Tiptur, Karnataka, and another in Pooriyambakkam near Chennai -each spread over 24 acres, the company goes beyond mere dairy production. These farms serve as training centers, empowering farmers to embrace organic practices and self-sustainability techniques.

Deep dive into our work

How They Do It: A Closed-loop System

The farms exemplify self-sustainability by growing all requisite products and feed for their cows without relying on external inputs. Waste management is integral, with a closed-loop system where composting is done on-site. Every aspect, from feed to waste management, is meticulously planned to minimize environmental impact.

Innovative Solutions: From Waste to Value

Akshayakalpa Organic doesn’t just manage waste; they transform it into valuable resources. Their processing plant implements a robust Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) system, ensuring responsible waste management. Moreover, they’ve innovated a fresh mango drink using the water byproduct from paneer and cheese production, showcasing their commitment to waste reduction and resource utilization.

Community Engagement: Driving Change Together

Real change happens when communities come together. Akshayakalpa Organic understands this and launched the “Let’s Give Back the Milk Pack” initiative on World Earth Day. By encouraging customers to recycle used milk packets, they’ve successfully recycled over 15,000 kg of plastic. However, their goal isn’t just participation; they aim for 100% involvement to maximize their impact.

Education and Awareness: Empowering Change Agents

Beyond their business operations, Akshayakalpa Organic prioritizes environmental consciousness and consumer education. Through initiatives like zero-waste birthday parties and promoting conscious consumption among friends and family, they’re nurturing a culture of sustainability. They firmly believe that increased awareness, coupled with convenience, will inspire more people to embrace sustainable practices, catalyzing a positive environmental transformation.
