Earlier this year, the company equipped three schools in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, covering 1200 students, with solar-powered infrastructure to fulfil their power needs in a sustainable and low-carbon-footprint way, in the presence of former President of Finland, Ms Tarja Halonen
Fortum, a global leader in sustainable energy, takes pride in announcing the accomplishment of the mission it has embarked to transform the lives of 1200 students in Bhilwara, through its solar capability.
In February, 2014, the company equipped three schools with solar-enabled infrastructure – Government Secondary School, Badala (Hurda); Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gulabpura, Bhilwara and Shishu Sadan Secondary School, Gulabpura, Bhilwara. The occasion was celebrated in the presence of Former President of Finland, Ms Tarja Halonen.
Sanjay Aggarwal, Managing Director, Fortum India said “This initiative is a testimony of Fortum’s commitment towards sustainable development. We want environment friendliness to be a way of life and thus took this initiative to empower the community as a whole. We will keep looking at more such initiatives to have a stronger and greener community.”
Amidst the heat wave in Rajasthan, where mercury goes beyond 45 degree Celsius, Fortum’s effort has brought relief to the lives of 1200 students. Today, they can study in a friendly atmosphere and without any interruption. The attendance rate in these schools during summers has improved significantly in comparison to the previous years
“We trust this initiative will inherit the sense of energy utilisation among these young citizens who hold the key to India’s growth, and make them realise the values that solar energy can bring into our lives” further added by added Mr. Aggarwal
Ms. Charu Verma, Principal – Shishu Sadan, Bhilwara said, “We appreciate Fortum’s effort in realising the underlying problem of the education system in this region. This summer onwards, we don’t need to worry about the power cut in this scorching heat as we are now equipped to have power connectivity at any point of time. And we have already witnessed the results. During summers, it was a normal phenomenon to see a drop in attendance but this time, we have observed a significant improvement, with approximately 95% attendance every day.”
This initiative was a part of Fortum’s corporate social responsibility and its contribution to the development and well- being of the local society.
