(India Energy Storage Alliance welcomes Regen Powertech, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as the latest IESA – Knowledge Partner Network members.)
During past year, India has emerged as one of the best markets for advanced energy storage technologies with orders placed for over $300M for advanced Li-Ion batteries for telecom applications alone during 2013. India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) is an industry alliance working to educate all stake holders in India about energy storage application and to provide a platform for manufacturers, regulators and other stake holders for transparent information exchange. Currently more than 25 companies and institutions are the member of this alliance.
IESA is excited to announce addition of Regen Powertech, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as the latest members of IESA – Knowledge Partner Network. With the addition of these new members, IESA is focusing on renewable integration, microgrids and opportunities for C&I customers.
During past year IESA has received tremendous response from various stakeholders and has a growing list of members that have joined IESA- Knowledge partner Network. In December 2013, the inaugural conference of IESA, Energy Storage India witnessed participation from over 300 delegates from 12 countries. Last year, IESA has compiled the most comprehensive assessment of market potential for energy storage and microgrid technologies in India for 2013-2020. This assessment takes into consideration the current opportunities as well as detailed overview of various growth scenarios and key government initiatives such as National Solar Mission and national Electric Mobility Mission. Our initial estimates suggest a 15-20 GW market potential for energy storage technologies for applications ranging from 5-10 kW for distributed telecom towers or residential backup systems to MW scale systems for C&I applications or even larger systems for renewable integration and ancillary services.
We welcome all the stakeholders to join this platform to fuel this effort of energy storage to make India self-dependent in Energy. IESA is working hard with regulators, policy makers and state and central governments to make suitable policy framework to boost energy storage sector in India. ReGen is making a huge contribution to meet India’s electricity demand with largest market share in the Independent Power Producers sector and it is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for wind power energy in India and other geographies.
About Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI): Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., one of the world’s leading heavy machinery manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo-Japan. In battery technology, MHI has expertise in lithium Ion battery for small and large application. For MHI in India, business opportunities are rapidly expanding in tandem with new economic policies promoting deregulation, an open economy and FTAs.
About Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI): GERMI is a centre of excellence in industry learning and has set up to develop human resource assets to cater to the petroleum and allied energy sectors, improve knowledge base of policy makers and technologists and provide a competitive edge to leaders to compete in the global arena. It is promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (A Govt. of Gujarat Undertaking).
About The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI): TERI was formally established in 1974 with the purpose of tackling and dealing with the immense and acute problems that mankind is likely to face within in the years ahead ‘on account of the gradual depletion of the earth’s finite energy resources which are largely non-renewable’ and ‘on account of the existing methods of their use which are polluting’. Over the years the Institute has developed a wider interpretation of this core purpose and its application. Consequently, TERI has created an environment that is enabling, dynamic and inspiring for the development of solutions to global problems in the fields of energy, environment and current patterns of development, which are largely unsustainable.
About IESA: The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) was launched in 2012 by Customized Energy Solutions to promote Energy Storage and Micro grid technologies and their applications in India. IESA does this by creating awareness among various stakeholders to make the Indian industry and power sector more competitive and efficient, and by promoting information exchange with the end users to assist with more informed decision making. IESA also provides insights to technology developers and system integrators on the policy landscape and business opportunities in India through frequent interaction with key stakeholders. With response received from the storage industry across the globe, the IESA is quickly gaining a strong foothold across various stakeholders and technology providers.
