All three major waterbodies - Adyar, Cooum and Buckhingam Canal - running across the city are 'dead', for all practical purposes, a Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board's water analysis report shows. Rivers of the city are polluted due to discharge of sewage and effluents, but the TNPCB study notes that the water is unfit for any kind of life form as there is no dissolved oxygen at any of the 41 locations at Adyar and Coouam.
