Digital for Decarbonization is one of the main decarbonization themes at the CLIMAFIX Summit 2022 to be held on Nov 25 & 26, Chennai and organized by EAI and IIT Madras - Energy Consortium.

Digital for Decarbonization Insights, Innovations @ CLIMAFIX Summit 2022

Introduction

Digital and software tools have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to about 20% by 2030, according to IEA - that represents a massive decarbonization potential.

The contribution of digital to decarbonization is vast, diverse, and touches a wide range of sectors and applications. It utilizes many different sets of digital tools - from simple databases, to sophisticated VR/AR, to highly complex AI/ML/big data platforms. Use of digital is perhaps one of the most potent avenues for decarbonization in the short and medium term.

Digital solutions can be implemented fast, do not disrupt the ongoing industrial operations and can have excellent payback. All these are attracting many end user industries to embrace digital tools and innovations as part of their decarbonization efforts.

As many of the applications are wrap-arounds for the existing infrastructure and processes, and as many of them can quickly identify inefficiencies and carbon emissions, expect significant funding and investments to happen in this sector during the 2020-2030 period. Digital technologies for decarbonization is a rapidly evolving field, with continuous innovations that utilize many digital tools and concepts. While some applications of digital can be expected to stabilize during the 2020-2025 period (especially monitoring and control applications), this sector will continuously have many other disruptive innovations for a large part of the 2020-2030 period and even beyond.

A number of startups, globally and in India, have started applying concepts such as AI, Big Data, Analytics & IoT in effective ways to reduce emissions, across a variety of industries.

The Digital for Decarbonization sector within the CLIMAFIX Summit 2022 will have over 30 startups sharing their insights and providing brief presentations of their value propositions, in two sessions - a Panel Discssion and a Snapshot Session.

In addition, we expect 100-150 relevant delegates to include early stage digital, software, energy efficiency and emissions monitoring startups or entrepreneurs with the potential to found digital based decarboniztion startups in future.
