As the e-mobility ecosystem evolves in India, so will the companies that offer specific products and solutions.
Two trends - interestingly, each opposite to the other - can happen while an industry evolves. One is a trend towards specialization - while many firms will offer multiple solutions at the start of an industry, they will soon confine themselves to specialization in order to add more value and achieve leadership. But an opposing trend can also be seen in some sectors - some companies might start offering a specific product, but might soon realize that it can add more value if it also extends its offering to adjacent value chain components.
In the Indian e-mobility ecosystem, we are seeing some examples of the latter trend - extended offerings. Companies that were originally offering only electric vehicles now make the vehicles and also offer these on a pay per mile model (electric mobility as a service) to the end user - so they are also a transportation firm and not just an OEM.
Companies that were originally making only batteries are now also extending their offerings to benefit EV charging and EV swapping stations in order to provide more value to the ecosystem.
Esmito Solutions, a battery technology company at the core, provides the interesting combination of batteries and battery swap technology solutions. They provide CAN enabled smart batteries for electric two wheelers and electric three wheelers. These smart batteries are IoT enabled and their performance characteristics can be monitored remotely. Esmito’s Smart Battery Swapping Station is a fully automated, self-dispensing battery swap station.
Their solutions thus have the potential to fast forward the plans of firms investing in electric vehicle swapping infrastructure as they now have a turnkey solution provider whose solutions can extend support all the way to daily O&M of the charging or swapping station.
Esmito has its origins from the research community at IIT Madras and was founded by professionals with significant backgrounds in the electrical and energy storage sectors.
Team EAI wishes Esmito the very best!
