Many Indian cities are developing climate action plans to adapt to the increasing risks they face because of climate change (such as flooding and heat waves) and to mitigate greenhouse emissions associated with extensive urbanization.
Mumbai is the latest Indian city to release a climate action plan (CAP). The CAP builds over a database of greenhouse gas inventory that outlines how different sectors in a city contribute to emissions.
The vulnerability assessment helps to bring risk equity to adaptation strategies in vulnerable communities, and general goals, such as “promote equitable access to green open spaces” and “decarbonize electricity grid,” have been identified.
An excellent beginning, in my opinion, even if there are questions about the efficacy of some of the action templates used - these are the types of ecosystems for which making a decent start is far more important getting most things right.
