How would you like to transform fossil fuel power stations in India into thermal storage systems for renewable energy?
That's what a partnership of two firms (E2S Power and India Power) plans to do.
On the one hand, you need energy storage systems to scale renewable energy to 24/7. On the other, you have large thermal power plants nearing the end of life or whose life might be cut short in India's race to Net-Zero.
Combine the above two, and you get this rather useful concept.
As can be seen, such thermal energy storage systems can be used for repurposing existing assets which while giving additional life to old projects, also preserves jobs and the local transition economy.
