Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) in association celebrated Global Wind Day 2009 for the first time in India, on June 15 at Marina Beach between 4.30pm to 6.00pm.

Over 300 children from Give Life Trust and wind energy enthusiasts participated in a rally of one kilometer to spread awareness of wind energy and they took a pledge to promote clean green energy and prevent global warming. The rally was followed by an educational street-play titled, ‘24-am Elikesi’by Expression Academy of Entertainment that emphasized that benefits of wind energy rested on the three pillars of rural prosperity, empowering India’s economy and electrifying the future of the Nation. The city also witnessed bus back panels with educative logs that encouraged public participation to the rally at Marina beach.

The phase II of the educational campaign will involve a school activation programme where IWTMA aims to catch the young minds of children with an enthralling theme of Believe in Wind Energy – It is the Future. Competitions will be conducted in over twenty schools for classes VIII-XII in the areas of painting, designing a miniature windmill model and essay writing. Three winners per batch will be taken on an educational trip to enlighten their knowledge on wind technology and understand the benefits of wind energy.
