I read recently that the city of Delhi spends the most per capita amongst Indian cities in solid waste management. I understand the city spends Rs 431 (per year?) per capita. The city also has a manpower deployment of 3.5 people per 1000 population on solid waste management.
Interesting numbers…solid waste management is emerging as a real painpoint for cities (not just in India)…with urban landfills running out, cities need to figure out how to recycle, reuse and reform these waste…
There are options no doubt, but collection, segregation and transportation are still costly and messy…while there are some key private players already operating in this market in India (Ramky Enviro Engineers, for instance), the problem is so massive there should be space for many more players to add value and build a strong business…
