In Europe, out of a total of 4 million T of copper used in all industries, the wind industry will consume about 22000 T, says this report.
And then it goes on to add that wind has come to copper industry’s rescue.
Well, I guess it is fine to have a feel-good feeling that wind is growing and is making a contribution to the growth of other industries, but to say that wind will “boost” copper demand appears to be an over-estimate, as 22000 out of 4 million is just over 0.5%.
Just goes to show how, for all the big talk about renewables, it is a very small dot in the overall business/industry map.
