EAI Director Narasimhan Santhanam spoke at an event organized by the global organization Engineers without Borders (more about them here & here).
It was a small but focussed event with participation from about 100 students.
Narasimhan spoke about the career opportunities available for the various engineering disciplines. He especially dwelt on the need for engineering students to look beyond software programming opportunities and look at the world of cleantech for opportunities in solar, wind, biofuels, energy auditing and green buildings, and also gave specific examples diverse engineering where professionals known to him had started working on cleantech domains:
1. A chemical engineer who had joined Reliance in its efforts in algae biofuels division
2. An electronics engineer who had started his research in solar PV at IIT Bombay
3. An electrical engineer who had started his own energy auditing business
4. A construction engineer who had joined a green buildings firm
5. An IT professional who had joined a company developing simulation software for the wind power sector
He ended his speech with encouraging students to explore the various options in the most exciting industry of our times
hope i would be there…………..must have had a nice time
