  • Government of India has a vision to increase the country’s solar power capacity to 100 GW from the current 5 GW by 2022, a growth of almost 2000% in the next six years
  • A tool that enables better end-user control over quality of components selected will significantly increase the adoption of solar power, especially for rooftop and small scale power plants.

Chennai, March 15, 2016: Solar Mango, a leading solar energy consulting and research group formed by a group of professionals from IITs and IIMs, today announced the launch of the world’s first Solar Power Plant Evaluation Tool for the common man, “PV Savvy”.

The main objective of this unique tool is to assist a non-expert in evaluating the complete solar power system effectively within just 15 minutes, thus significantly enhancing the performance of the system.

Commenting on the launch Narasimhan Santhanam, Co-Founder & Director, Solar Mango, said “We are extremely happy to have developed the solar power plant evaluation tool “PV Savvy” which has the potential to dramatically accelerate the growth of solar power in India by carrying it to the masses. This is the first such tool anywhere in the world that can be used by the non-experts”.

He added, “The PV Savvy tool was developed using extensive inputs both from technical experts and EPCs, as well as from the practical work our teams do on the ground. Our main objective is to ensure that everyone who invests in solar power plants make informed decisions about the selection of the main solar power plant components – solar panels, inverters, cables and mounting structures”.

Deep dive into our work

Many of the solar investments in the forthcoming years will be done by those who have little knowledge of solar power technology or operations. Any mistake they make during the selection of components will have a significant negative impact on their overall performance – such as electricity generation and savings/profits for 25 long years.

One of the key challenges faced by these new developers is their inability to evaluate the quality of solar power plant components using relevant parameters and benchmarks.

As of now, there is no tool available which can assist such non-expert investors and power plant developers to evaluate the main components of a solar power system – solar panels, inverters, mounting structures and cables.

To address this gap and the growing demand, Solar Mango, the #1 Solar Guide, has come up with the new and pioneering tool that assists non-expert investors to make informed decisions on the choice of their solar power plant components.

We are confident that PV Savvy will play an important role in accelerating the adoption of solar especially for rooftop solar and small solar farms, and help in the government achieving its target of 100 GW by 2022.
